If you’ve been venturing into the online business and digital marketing world, you’ve probably heard some buzz about Sales Funnels.

While the term ‘Sales Funnel’ often simply refers to the buying process companies lead customers through to buying their products, the specific way many entrepreneurs today are using Sales Funnels is by creating online landing pages that convert traffic into customers.

A few months ago, I decided to dive into understanding the online Sales Funnel concept.

And, as I’m sure you know, when you decide to search for answers and solutions on the internet nowadays, you’re met with a plethora of information. Unsurprisingly, that’s exactly what happened.

I faced extreme information overload, and found myself ridiculously overwhelmed. It was the typical “paralysis by analysis” story.

I had all of this information some free, some paid and I had no clue how it all connected or how I could actually apply it.

Recently, however, that all changed with one book that showed up at my door.

It was a book called DotCom Secrets by Russell Brunson that my husband had ordered. Again, considering the amount of information I already had and didn’t know what to do with, I wasn’t overly encouraged to get reading it.

I decided to open it up and start reading nonetheless… And I’m so happy I did.

Even within the introduction, the concept of Sales Funnels became so much more clear to me. Considering my lack of experience and expertise in the marketing field, that felt like a huge victory for me.

I’d love to share many concepts that I’m learning from Russell Brunson with all of you in the months to come, but for now, let’s start with the basics! If you’re an advanced digital marketer or have already had great success with your online business, this will probably be nothing new to you.

But for anyone out there reading this who’s in a similar spot as me a newbie business owner or newbie affiliate marketer you may get something out of this and what’s to come.

Also in the introduction to the book, while Russell Brunson reveals his odd childhood obsession with sales flyers, he talks about The Offline Method sales process he noticed.

Basically, the direct response marketers would leave their sales flyers or “junk mail” in his mailbox and would ask him to contact their company for a free report. When he contacted them, they would send him a sales letter, disguised as a free report.

Within this free report, they would try to sell him a low-ticket information product something very cheap, yet valuable.

From there, they would send him their “system”, along with another sales letter that tried to sell a high-ticket product ― something expensive, and highly valuable.

Ever heard the expression, “There’s nothing new under the sun”?

Well, it’s true.

The exact same system is used in the online world, and it’s the same system that Russell Brunson and many other big names in the business have used to grow hundreds of online companies.

The system is the same, but the mediums have changed. Just as T.V. overthrew radio in the past, social online platforms such as YouTube are overthrowing T.V.

It’s the circle of life, guys.

Today, instead of receiving direct mail, you receive email. Instead of networking in person, you can meet people through social networks like Facebook. Instead of turning on the radio, you tune into your favourite podcast. Instead of grabbing your newspaper from the local news stand or metro station, you can log onto a blog catered to your reading interests.

So then, The Online Method, is really just about replacing old-school media forms with new media forms.

Instead of mailing out a flyer to random people and hoping for the best, you can now laser target potential customers by putting an ad in front of them on their favourite websites or social media platforms.

From there, you direct them to a Squeeze Page where they can “opt-in” ― providing you with their name and email address so you then put them on a mailing list. Then, it’s time to directly lead them to sales page, or you can market to them at a later time  via your email list or through retargeting methods.

Now, let me be clear. I’m not saying learning the in-depth strategy of online Sales Funnels is “easy”.

Like anything, learning how to properly and successfully execute winning online Sales Funnels will take time and effort.

What I am trying to say, however, is that the Sales Funnel strategies and concepts are evergreen. While technology is ever-changing, sales strategies remain the same.

And that’s the beautiful thing.

Once you truly understand and can successfully apply these concepts, you’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
